With profound sadness we announce the passing of Richard 'Ricky' William Miller Sr., 65, of 2495 Charlestown Rd, Kearneysville, WV on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Our loving & devoted husband, father, grandfather, & great grandfather!
Ricky loved his family & friends dearly and never met a stranger. How do you sum up a man who everyone loved & adored, that was always there to lend a helping hand in 1-3 paragraphs? So I apologize in advance, but this will be a bit longer.
Ricky grew up on 403 Athletic St in Martinsburg WV and was the youngest of 3 boys & 1 girl. Born to David B. Miller & Gloria 'June' Miller on September 28, 1955. It was a cold, windy day & raining heavily outside at 21° in temperature, when he came into this world. No wonder we always called him the human heater, he rarely got cold, wearing but a flannel shirt with sleeves rolled up and maybe a vest on the coldest of days.
He adored his older brothers Terry & Ben and his sister Judy. From the very young age of 14 he helped his father at his business', Miller's Union 76 Gas Station & Tri State Slaughter House for 11 years. In 1974 he joined the Army and was military police at the Army National Guard for 7 years and a member of the VFW of Martinsburg. He also worked at Jefferson Asphalt for 40 years, along with various construction companies. Ricky worked so very hard all of his life, sometimes 3 jobs at a time to support his family and make sure they had all they needed.
He spent his free time with family & friends. Swimming in the inground pool & cabana he built with his own 2 hands, where there were years of memorable get-togethers, birthday parties, cookouts, and where Ricky & Ruth Ann eventually renewed their vows on July 26, 2014, and also where he would have his celebration of life memorial in the Spring of 2021!
Ricky was always there to help out his brothers, family & friends and most of all his children, whenever they needed it. He was a jack of all trades & knew how to do just about everything, and boy did he ever. If Rick Miller did the job, you can rest assured it was done right. He also enjoyed watching his Westerns, favorite TV shows & movies with his wife Ruth Ann & family. Usually accompanied by his treasured shih tzu & sidekick, Princess. He was not a man of many words, but when he did have something to say, it was worth hearing. A gentle giant if you will, always a smile on his face and a friendly welcome, usually asking how your day was, and genuinely interested. Never one to complain and always grateful for the blessing he was given, full of love & very proud of his family.
Ricky is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Ruth Ann 'Hobby' Miller, son Richard 'Richie' William Miller Jr., daughter Katrina Nicole Kirchner & her husband Chris C. Kirchner, grandson Richard 'Trey' William Miller III & his wife Jaunita 'Coco' Miller, granddaughter Taylor Nicole Severt & her wife Cierra D. Severt, granddaughter Bailey Mae Miller, grandson Brayden Liam Kirchner, grandson Jake N. Kirchner, great-grandsons River & Eli Miller, Aunt Helen R. Bryan, brother Terry Lee Miller and many nieces & nephews.
To help alleviate final expenses, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
