Patricia Ann “Patty” Massullo Kinder of Martinsburg, slipped away from this life at the age of 74 on August 7, 2020, while residing at Williamsport Retirement Village under the care of Hospice of Washington County
She was born on March 9, 1946, in Morgantown WV to Domenick Massullo and Raphael Vandetta Massullo. She was the youngest of four children.
She was a long time resident of Berkeley County and was well recognized for both her professional and civic achievements. She spent most of her life working as a professional nurse and nursing administrator and was a leader in both the Martinsburg Junior Women's Club and the Civitan Club of Martinsburg at different times.
A holder of several college degrees and certificates of advanced training, she began her career as a registered nurse at City Hospital but eventually took a position at the Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital where she was a floor nurse before being promoted to head nurse and later as high as associate chief nurse. While at the VA she was instrumental in developing both the oncology program and a formal palliative care program at that facility.
Upon moving to Martinsburg with a young family, she first became involved in the Junior Women's Club serving locally and at the district and state levels. She later joined Civitan as one of the first women members in the previously all male Martinsburg club and became the first female President of that club. She was elected to the top position in the Area, then the District and then the Region of Civitan International, culminating in serving two years on the Civitan International Board of Directors. She holds a multitude of awards and honors at the highest level of Civitan, most recent of which is her being named a Civitan International Sustaining Research Center Fellow.
Patty was preceded in death by both her parents, her sister Mary Louise Massullo Rosetti, and her brother Carl Donald Massullo. She is survived by her brother Ralph Eugene Massullo, her husband Eugene Harrill Kinder, her two sons Eric Eugene Kinder and Raymond Harrill Kinder and Raymond’s wife Denise, two granddaughters Cassandra Ruth Kinder and Heather Patricia Kinder, one grandson Ethan Harrill Kinder, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members.
Private services will be conducted by Rosedale Funeral Home. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, an appropriate gesture to memorialize Patty would be a donation to a charity of your choice in her name. The Kinder Family Endowment Fund operated by the Civitan Club of Martinsburg P.O. Box 1402 Martinsburg WV 25402-1402 is specifically suggested.
