I’m saddened to learn of Markay’s passing.  Although we had lost contact for several years, I have often thought about her and reminisced about our “good old days”.  Of course my recollection of the good old days might differ from those who knew her longer, but regardless, I still look upon those times fondly.

I first met Markay when applying for a job at Marlene and Markay Real Estate as the office manager.  After my departure from office management for many years, I circled back and worked for her as a sales agent.  It was then, the a true mentor-ship formed and she was like a beacon of hope and a reality check all at the same time.  Some of the best advice she gave me as a new agent was to “grow a thick skin honey, not all deals are going to work out.” Oh that pearl of wisdom from a lady that not only knew real estate, but exuded real estate.  She always told me that people can hear a smile, even if you’re talking on the phone.  Those two things, among many others, I have taken with me in my real estate career.

Markay was generous with her time, her finances and her personal residence. She was a great hostess for any event whether it be a birthday party, a wedding shower, or just a good old fashioned picnic.  She didn’t mind having a drink with you either and with or without the drink, would be the life of the party.  I can almost hear her boisterous laugh in my head as I write this.  She loved a good time, that is for sure.  One thing is certain – she could cook up a storm and literally make something out of nothing and it would be delicious and you never left her home without a full stomach.  

I have many stories I could tell, but to keep it simple:  to know Markay was to love her.  She was definitely one of a kind, loved and admired by many and will be sorely missed by all the lives she touched.  Rest in peace my dear friend and mentor.


I had the pleasure of working for Markay from 2000 until she closed her office. She was a great mentor teaching me the business of selling and listing homes and land. I will never forget her. I visited with her several times after we parted ways in the business. She was, in my book, one great lady. I will dearly miss her. My condolences go out to all the family.

Andy and I are so sorry for your loss. Aunt Markay was a kind, loving, caring person  who would do anything for you. She was a beautiful amazing lady. She was loved by a lot of people.
