Born on November 16, 1930 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Herbert and Pearl Houser.
John was a graduate of Martinsburg High School and a US Marine Veteran having served from 1951-1954. He retired from DuPont after over years.
He was an avid softball player and pitcher and was the Founder/Organizer of the country band, “Twighliters” in the 60’s and 70’s. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Moose Lodge 120 and Elks Club 778.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosalie Sowers Houser; children: Sharon Kay Lamp, Scott Houser and wife, Debbie, Lisa Twigg and husband, Jeff, and Tricia Alger and husband, James; grandchildren: Jennifer Bennett, Jeremy and Justin Houser, Tiffany Twigg, Stephanie Roush, and Garrett Alger; great-grandchildren: Morgan, Ashton, and Avery Bennett, Preston, Gunner, Gage, and Aidan Houser, Addison, Brody, and Charley Roush, and one more on the way, Elliott Alger due in September; and his siblings: Sue Ellen Fream and William Leon Houser.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Greta Barney; son-in-law, Robert D. Lamp; and great-grandson, Trenton Roush.
Family and friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
