Born on November 20, 1929, Helen Anne Luttrell (née Custer), known by all as “Anne”, grew up and later spent her life on what was once known as Dandridge Ford Road near the village of Vanville, West Virginia. Throughout her life, she remained on that same hilly country road now known as Near Bethels Way. But, Anne was more than just a person at an address; she was a positive presence, in life and, now, in death, for both her family, her friends, and her community.
On January 31, 1947, Anne married the love of her life, a gentle and compassionate man, namely Melvin Daniel Luttrell. From 1947 until Melvin’s passing in 2010, Anne and Melvin were inseparable. Rarely, a day passed with her and “Mel” apart. He was the epitome of a hard-working, loving, and dedicated husband and father. And, Anne, she exemplified the epitome of an intelligent and strong woman who expected nothing less than the best effort from her children and her grandchildren. After 63 years of marriage, together, their presence, their love, and their examples of being loving spouses and dedicated parents forged relationships and bonded memories for their family and friends that will endure long past Anne and Mel’s earthly lifetimes.
From the earliest of ages, Anne was a faithful and devout servant to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. No room in her house was complete without an annotated copy of the Holy Bible. Few Sundays would pass without her constant attendance to share in the Word of the Lord and, equally, her endless service to fellow church members.
To anyone that knew Anne, she was, without a doubt, a tireless worker. In 1985, she retired from 3M after several decades of loyal service. But, retirement was no excuse for Anne to slow down. Rather, she immersed herself into her family, staying involved with not only her children, but also her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even her great-great grandchildren.
What many will recall the most about Anne was her cooking, namely her famous cinnamon rolls. Rumor has it that the aroma of caramelized sugar and cinnamon is now causing frenzied discussions in Heaven amongst her many friends and family and, especially, Mel, as to who will get a roll from her first batch.
At the age of 93, Anne passed peacefully from this life on October 17, 2023, in the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Anne was predeceased by parents, her husband, her two sisters, Jean Elizabeth Kief and Vivian Kathaleen Barrow, and one son-in-law, Gary Leo Capriotti.
