of Martinsburg, West Virginia passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2023.
He was born February 27, 1956 in Bakersfield, CA, the son of the late Reginald Lane and
Barbara Sutter.
Derek spent his early childhood years in Las Vegas, NV, where he graduated from Rancho
High School. He studied accounting at St. Petersburg Junior College while in the U.S. Coast
Guard where he made his career. Derek devoted over 22 years of service to the U.S. Coast
Guard and sailed the world, traveling to all seven continents, until his retirement as Chief
Warrant Officer Three.
Derek was an avid golfer and went on to work at TPC of Virginia Beach. He was an
immensely proud father of his two sons and had a love for history, ultimately retiring in the
Shenandoah Valley.
He is survived by his sons, SSG Ryan T. Lane (USA), and Nathan A. Lane; sister, Leslie
Lane of Las Vegas, NV.
A full military service honoring the life of Derek Richard Lane will be held at 10:00am on
Friday, February 17, at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA
