She was the wife of the late Benjamin F. Carter, Jr.
She is survived by one son, Reginald Roper of Charles Town; one daughter, Sharon Adams (husband John “Bea”) of Martinsburg; one sister, Sarah Walker of Kearnesyville; son in law, Charles Diggs, Sr. of Frederick, Maryland; and daughter in law, Gwenivere Roper of Charles Town. Our beloved also leaves 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a loving host of nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish her memory.
Celena, affectionately known as Lulu to the community was a Lifetime Member and Mother of St. Paul Baptist Church in Kearneysville where she served the Lord through several committees and ministries as well as civic/community organizations such as the former “Jolly 15 Club and Charles Town Elk Lodge”. She was a longtime employee and member of the late Paul Miller Family where she provided care for over 40 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris L. Diggs; her son, Franklin (Frankie) Carter; 3 sisters: Emma Frances Grantham, Mary (Murphy) Mason, and Velda E. Brown; and two brothers: John Roper and James Roper.
She will be remembered by several devoted family friends, Dorothy Walker, Harla Berry, Vickie Walker and Evelyn Stephenson, along with many other neighbors, as well as a special cousin near and dear to her, Ms. Odell Clinton.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Covenant Church, 7485 Shepherdstown Pike, Shepherdstown, WV 25443, from 11am until the time of the funeral service at noon.
Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
