Shannee Thomas-Stewart was born on April 29, 1961, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Deloris Colbert and James Colbert. From birth, she was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Annapolis, Maryland. In her early years, Shannee attended Eastport Elementary School, Tyler Heights Elementary School, and Annapolis Junior High School. She later attended Annapolis Senior High School where she ran track and was a member of the basketball team.
After graduation, Shannee enlisted in the United States Army where she valued her service highly and obtained the rank of Sergeant. During her 13 years of service, she was a Personnel Record Specialist, positively impacting thousands of soldiers and their families. She traveled around the world stationed in Yongsan, Korea, Frankfort, Germany, Fort McPherson, Fort Gordon, and Fort Jackson.
Shannee married the late Emmett Thomas in 1985, and later welcomed their daughter, Ta’Leace. After leaving the Army, Shannee received her Bachelor’s degree from Cambridge University and went on to have a successful career in Human Resources. She focused her career on serving others and mentoring youth, touching the lives of everyone she met. Shannee was a member of Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority, Incorporated, where she served as Chaplain for the Augusta Xi Chapter. She was also an active member of Cher's Sisters Only Club. Shannee was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who enjoyed laughing, cooking, shopping, crafting, and traveling. She was a woman of class and exuded kindness, generosity, and love to everyone who came into contact with her.
Shannee was preceded in death by her mother Deloris Colbert and her brother Derrick Colbert. She leaves to cherish her legacy her husband Morgan Stewart, daughters Ta’Leace Thomas, BreAndra Stewart, and Latrice Stewart, twin sister Shannon Harris (Keith Harris), brothers Keith Colbert and Wayne Colbert, father James Colbert, as well as a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
