The son of Shankerlal and Shantaben Amin, he was born in the village of Bareja, Gujarat, India on August 29th, 1952. After graduating from L.D. College of Engineering in 1974, he married the love of his life, Padma Nabhubhai Patel on May 14th, 1975. They, like many, courageously moved to the United States to build their lives together, settling first in the city of Chicago and then the suburb of Hoffman Estates. Navnit worked for an engineering firm, working on projects at O'Hare Airport and the United Center. He instilled his passion for education and a curiosity for knowledge in his two sons, Mital and Parin.
He was never one to shy away from a challenge, with the same spirit that led them to move to the United States, and no previous experience he and Padma purchased their first hotel in Augusta, Georgia in 1994. To make their dream a success, he continued to work for his engineering firm in Chicago while Padma managed the business of the hotel. Flying and driving down to Augusta as often as he could until relocating permanently in 1999. They worked together to successfully run their first hotel until it was sold in 2000. Their intention was to use their experiences to build their dream hotel. Opened in 2004, he ran it until he retired in 2022. That hotel stands as evidence of his sacrifice and tenacity to build a life and future for his family here in the US.
Navnit spent most of his time making connections with friends and family. Whether in Chicago or Augusta, his generous spirit helped him to make friends of strangers in an instant. Playing cards or talking about the news of the day after a meal, as long as he was with the people he cared about, he was content.
He is survived by his son, Mital Navnit Amin (Amanda) of Chicago, IL; son Parin Navnit Amin (Lacie Irvine) of Chicago, IL; and grandchildren Lia Rani Amin, Alexis Irvine, and Nathan Irvine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shankerlal and Shantaben Amin, sister Indiraben Amin, and wife Padma Amin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Columbia Road. The family will begin receiving guests at 12:00 PM.
