Mamie Cadden

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February, 23, 2013 at Bayvale Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie K. DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mamie was born to Seaby and Ara Dell Jones on December 28, 1925. She was born in a boarding house on Main Street in Thomson, GA. The boarding house was run by her Grandmother Annie Rebecca Jones, for whom she was named. Her family moved to Augusta in 1927. She lived on Chafee Avenue for close to 25 years, on Ridge Road for over 40 years and in Miami, Florida for 5 years. In 1938 she met the love of her life Willie Edward Cadden. They met at an Augusta Tigers baseball game at Allen Park in Augusta. They were married on February 22, 1940 in Aiken, SC. They were very happily married for 43 years until his death in 1983. She was employed at Enterprise Mill until her retirement in 1961.

Being a big Atlanta Braves fan, she was always excited to see baseball season start. Her favorite tv program was the Gaither Family Gospel, which she never missed. She always stayed busy. She was always happiest when visiting her grandchildren and her children. They were her pride and joy. Visiting her extended family was also one of the things that brought her the most enjoyment. She was a loving wife to Willie and a wonderful, caring mother to her 2 daughters. She was known by the names of Nannie, Big Nannie, Aunt Mamie and most importantly Mom. She also enjoyed attending church at Bayvale Baptist Church where she was a long time member. She had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh, as well as making others laugh with her. She was loved by many people and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Seaby and Ara Dell Jones, a brother Percy Durward (Bo) Jones, Her Husband Willie Edward Cadden and a Great Granddaughter Chelsea Morgan Smith.

Mamie is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Ann (Billy) Pearson and Carol (Donald) Herron,4 Grandchildren; Carol Ann (Jeff) Smith, Greg Pearson, Scott Herron and Michele Herron; 3 Great Grandchildren; Erin Smith, Crystal Pearson and Zach Smith;1 Great, Great Grandchild, Destin Pearson;1 Niece and 3 Nephews.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Westwood Nursing Home and the staff of Alliance Hospice for taking care of her.

The family will receive friends at Elliott Sons Funeral Home – Columbia Road Chapel from 6–8 pm on Friday, February 22, 2013.
