James Edward Sirmans, Sr., 78, of Augusta, Georgia went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 28, 2022. He was born in Willacoochee, Georgia, the oldest son of the late Grady Bonman and Mary Effie White Sirmans.
Mr. Sirmans is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgia Ann Carroll; Son James Edward Sirmans, Jr. and wife Connie Lee of Dearing, GA, Daughter Linda Marie Sirmans of Zebulon, NC and Daughter Diana Lynn Sirmans Parrish and husband Bert of North Augusta, SC. He is also survived by 7 grandkids, Elizabeth Marie Smith (Brian), Joanna Lee McGee Turner (Wes), Joel Beckett Fogleman (Anne-Marie), James Tyler Sirmans, James Edward Sirmans III (Elena), Crystal LeAnn Sirmans (Brian), Alyssa Hope Parrish and 5 great-grandkids, Mason James Turner, Rylan Lee Turner, Rylee Perry Campbell, Bryer James Sirmans and Harper LeAnn Wilson. And he is also survived by 6 brothers and sisters: Evelyn Sirmans Folsom (David), Wayne Sirmans (Diane), Anna Sirmans Strickland (John), Don Sirmans (Maliea), Janice Sirmans Corbitt (Jerry) and Roy Sirmans (Lisa).
Mr. Sirmans is preceded in death by his father Grady Bonman Sirmans, his mother Mary Effie White Sirmans Courson, and his sister Laverne Giddens.
Mr. Sirmans joined the Army in 1962 serving in the Battery B, 2nd Missile Battalion, 52 Artillery for 2 years then transferred to the Sentry Dog Platoon training Zimbo, his best friend German Shepard sentry dog for patrolling the missile compound. He was honorably discharged from the Army in August 1968. He worked as the Chief Electrician at Aiken County Public Service Authority for more than 25 years, retiring in 2008.
Known as Ed by many, Edward was an avid hunter and fisherman, including bow hunting and bow fishing and enjoyed competing in bowfishing tournaments with good friends. He had the greenest thumb of all, which he got from his mother, and could root anything he got his hands on. He spent many of his retirement days growing flowers, sitting in his rocking chair on the back porch (his R&R room), reading western novels and watching the hummingbirds and smelling the gardenias surrounding his porch. He loved his family unconditionally and would help anyone in need. He loved family get-togethers and reunions, and you could always find him behind the video camera, or singing George Jones karaoke.
Visitation and viewing will be at his home at 2106 Division Street in Augusta, Georgia on both Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 5pm and again on Monday from Noon until the time of the funeral at Elliott Sons Funeral Home.
His funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, Georgia. Interment to follow in the family lot at West View Cemetery at 2051 Division Street, Augusta, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Gary Youngblood, Sr., Vince Robertson, Donny Sirmans, Jamie B. Sirmans, Curt McBride, Chris McBride.
Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Ruff, Harry Poston, Jr., Gary Youngblood, Jr. and Justin Youngblood.
There will a be a Memorial Service held at a later date in Pearson, Georgia.
