Mr. Van Gelder was born to the late Almon and Leola Van Gelder in Rochester, New York. Mr. Van Gelder adored his family and spending time with them. Mr. Van Gelder served 6 years in the United States Navy. He dedicated his life serving as a firefighter at Eastman Kodak, Rochester, New York, and served as the Deputy Chief at the Chili Fire Department, Chili Center, New York. He was a fire protection consultant at SRS and Plant Vogtle. Mr. Van Gelder was active at Quest Church in Grovetown, GA. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking in his garage.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Van Gelder is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn Louise Van Gelder. Survivors include his children, Shawn Van Gelder (Christine) and Tamela Van Gelder Barrett (Tim); siblings, Phil Van Gelder (Susan), Judy Van Gelder Breach (William) and Cynthia Van Gelder Mortimer (Frank); grandchildren, Sophia Van Gelder, Sydney Van Gelder, Austin Van Gelder, Jared Van Gelder, Adam Van Gelder and four great-grandchildren.
