Gene Carter

Gene was born on August 25, 1941 in Augusta, GA. a son of the late Lewis Harold Carter and Bessie Lee Kight Carter.

Gene was a man who lived life to the fullest. He loved his wife Betty of 45 years, his five children and especially all of his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a history buff and world traveler. He loved to watch Westerns, play cards, fish and shoot pool with his best friends. He was famous for throwing the best Halloween parties and barbeques. He truly loved his job as CFO at McKnight Construction Company, where he worked for 50 years. Gene was a member of Bellevue Baptist and loved his pastor and church family.

Gene is survived by his wife, Betty Rickerson Carter; Children, Elaine Steed (Jim), Edie Johnson (Alton Roland), Angie Magruder (Jeff), Ricky Rickerson (Lisa), Stephen Rickerson (Cathy); 17 grandchildren and 15; great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his father Lewis Harold Carter, his mother Bessie Lee Kight Carter, his brother Edward Carter and his sister Carolyn Spencer.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 in the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Pittman officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bellevue Baptist Church, Grovetown GA.
