Augusta—Dorothy (Dot) Palmer Garner, 88, entered into eternal rest on April 16, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, with Dr. Michael L. Davenport and Dr. Kenneth Word officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Duke R. Harley, Sr., and James W. Garner, Sr.; daughter, Rebecca Garner; parents, Lucile and John B. Palmer, Sr.; brother, John B. Palmer, Jr.; and sister, Edna Bedenbaugh. Dorothy was a member of the Tubman High School Alumni Association and received the Minerva Award for being an outstanding alumnus. She retired from C & S Bank after 33 years, and was a former member of Pine View Baptist Church and a member of The Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Duke Richard Harley, Jr. (Nila Rawls) and James W. Garner, Jr., (Joy); daughter, Orenda Gregory (Martin); sister, Helen Story; grandchildren, Sharon Caldwell, Scott and Laura Garner, and Elizabeth Gregory; great grandchildren, Drew and Brad Davidson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dorothy’s special caregivers: Linda Rhodes; Rufus, Priscilla, and Jennifer Davis; Frankie Poole; Christy Dunbar; Gail Cash; and the Trinity Hospice staff. Friends will be received on Monday, April 18, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Elliott Sons Columbia Road Chapel.
