Mrs. Doris H. Lam, age 96, of Augusta, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, March 31, 2015 at University Hospital. Born in China in1919, she emigrated to Mississippi and attended Draughon's Business College in Greenwood. She married Mr. Jack Lam of Augusta. Together they operated Lam Brother's Grocery on D' Antignac Street for over 50 years.
During her years in business alongside her devoted husband, she received numerous recognitions for her service to the Augusta community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Chinese Sunday School, a member of the Augusta Historical Society and a board member of the Augusta Museum .As a lifetime member of the Chinese Benevolent Association of Augusta, she served for several decades as President of the Chinese Women's Club. She has chaired the Arts in the Heart Festival for Chinese culture and hosted various events with the Augusta Museum and USO.
Mrs. Lam will be remembered for her devout faith, love and devotion to family, her strength of character, her love of music, and her service to the Augusta community. She is known in Augusta as one of the best Chinese cooks!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Y. Jack Lam, and is survived by her son, Dana J. Lam (Marielle), Orange Park, FL; their 3 daughters, Virginia T. Lam, Philadelphia, PA, Doris M. Lam (Dr. Harold M. Goll), Baltimore, MD, Dale J. Lam (Les Mizzell), Columbia, SC; one sister, Mrs. Hon Lin D. Loui, Phoenix, AZ, and one granddaughter, Jillian Elise Lam, Orange Park, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, April 6, 2015 in the Storey Chapel at the First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow in
Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am, on Monday, in the chapel of the church.
