Verna Claire Van Ness

Verna Claire Van Ness passed away peacefully in her home on February 23, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born on August 18, 1931 in Centerville, Louisiana to the late Almic and Delicia LeBlanc. Devoted wife of the late Kennith "Van" J. Van Ness, Sr. Loving mother of Kennith J. Van Ness, Jr. (Kathleen), Terry L. Van Ness (Rebecca) and the late Thomas A. Van Ness and Roxanna V. Waltman. Proud grandmother of Shawn M. Symington, William H. "Buddy" Van Ness, Elizabeth "Babet" Waltman, Cody Van Ness, Nicholas Van Ness, Dakota Van Ness, Melody N. Fenimore, Mary Van Ness and the late Thomas Van Ness, Jr. and 7 great-grandchildren. Sister of Charles LeBlanc, Loretta Deville, Delicia "Dell" Diamond, Sylvia "Sue" Chauvin and the late Cecile Dupree, Lowney LeBlanc, Almic LeBlanc, Jr, Rodney LeBlanc and Sidney LeBlanc. Verna is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Verna grew up in St. Mary Parish where she met the love of her life. Verna and Kennith "Van" married on May 11, 1952. They were long time residence of Westwego, Louisiana and a dedicated member of West Marrero Baptist Church. Verna worked at Family Dollar for more than 30 years until she retired. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and feeding wildlife but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Verna was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Verna on Saturday, March 9, 2024 beginning at 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Funeral Service will begin 1:00 PM and a private burial will be held at a later date.
