Mrs. Shirley R. Ortego

Shirley Lorraine Robbins Ortego has gone to her heavenly reward on July 13, 2014. Mrs. Ortego is the widow of the late Wickliffe J. Ortego, Jr., the daughter of the late Betty S. Robbins and the late Milton C. Robbins, and a total of six brothers and sisters. Mrs. Ortego has one brother living, Edward C. Robbins. She had two children a daughter, Donna O. Shoemake (Mike) and a son Clyde J. Ortego (Juana) along with two granddaughters Amanda Fabre (Darby) and Angela Manuel (Josh). She also has five loving great grandsons, Darby, Colin, Jude, Kyle, and Kaleb, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ortego was an active member of First Baptist Church of Avondale, LA with the youth and her Sunday School; she participated in Vacation Bible School as well as numerous other activities.

Mrs. Ortego also participated in her children’s scouting adventures and has been a room mother for her son’s sixth grade class, planning special activities and events as well as holiday functions.

Mrs. Ortego was an employee of South Central Bell Company as a switch board operator and later in life worked as a greeter for the Wendy’s corporation at the local restaurant in Avondale.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the Alzheimer’s foundation or to Canon Hospice Organization.

The family would like to thank the staff of Canon Hospice for their compassionate care, and wonderful attention.

A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Express condolences at www.westsideleitzeagan.com.
