Of my childhood memories, I’ve always remembered my Auntie Rosie as a very classy lady- well mannered, wise and an eloquent speaker. My heart is broken.

You were an encourager and always had nice things to say to everybody.  While we were dealing with detractors, you were very appreciative of the work we did in the Filipino Catholic Ministry and for this we will always be grateful.  You have done a lot of good in your life!  Rest now in God's peace!

We may not be sisters by blood but we share the heartbeat of Christ and the love of Papa and Mama. Today I celebrate your life and the many memories of you. Surely I miss our daily phone calls in between my home visits, when I’m stuck in traffic, your 5 am calls on my birthday, how we laughed at the stories we created even with the silliest of things, your messages on siblings day and we almost teared up the last time, and your Christmas cards.  You called me few hours before  your stroke and that was the last time I heard your voice, the last time your name appeared on my incoming calls. A little piece of you will always live in me. I became a nurse because of your encouragement. I’m standing tall because you believed in me. The many times I cried to you when I was at the lowest point of my life and you listened attentively and patiently. Our relationship was not perfect but a relationship tested can be trusted. Rest In Peace big sister. Someday we’ll see each other again. I may have lost a wing but I gained an Angel. I love you. ❤️

It was a warm summer evening that I remember walking with my brother and Ninang Rosie through the neighborhood streets of Cambridge. The fresh rainfall had left the sidewalk damp, the leaves crisp. Ninang Rosie interlaced her arms onto ours as we made our way back home. And all along the way, she told us about our family history, enlightening us with stories and tales that we hope to pass onto our own children one day. Even though she held onto us for support, she was the one lifting us up. She embodied the spirit of our family, and I am so grateful to have gotten to know her through these past few years. She was a beloved matriarch, and she will be deeply missed. Sincerest condolences to all of our family members. Ninang Rosie's everlasting spirit will always live on in us.

In going through my parents’ papers, I found an envelope labeled “Notes 4 our wedding anniversary” in my father’s handwriting. In it was a complete plan for a celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary, complete with all of the entourage named, full Mass booklet, proposed menu, photos for display...My dad had thought out every element to mark that special day with a glorious celebration. Unfortunately, that was 2005, the year hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and our family was not in a position to travel to the Philippines (my dad wanted their renewal of vows to take place in his home in Dagupan City) to carry out our dad’s wishes. 

He did write his speech for the celebration, a portion of which I am sharing here:

“In our married life, my beloved wife, Rise, made me feel special. She brought out all the best in me. She is my joym my hope, my inspiration, the light and sunshine in my life, the wind beneath my wings as we soar like an eagle above the clouds to build our nest among the stars. 

“I consider myself lucky that I have Rosie as my wife--my lifetime partner, and I will not trade our life together for anything else in this world because God brought her to my life at a time when I needed her most.

“And so, to all of you my dear friends, I would like you to know that Rosie and I are very happy on this occasion to be with all of you. We hope and wish that you will share with us the joys and happiness of this momentous occasion.

“Life is short, and time so precious and as the years dwindle down to a precious few, I will stick to my wife, Rosie, by all means to spend the rest of my earthly life with her.

“We love you all and we thank you.”


I will always remember going to Tita Rosie’s and Tito Alex room bc we knew where the Toblerone chocolates were hidden in the closet. After eating 2- 3 bars, We would jump on the bed until we got caught by Tita Rosie, always! Tita Rosie was my second mom growing up on Alex Kornman. We will miss you.

Tita Rosie is like a real true blood aunt to me.. She is a very kind and gentle woman so full of wisdom and well loved by so many friends here in the Greater New Orleans area..

I will never forget her as e very pious and religious devotee of our Parish Church, the St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Woodmere Subdivision, Harvey, Louisiana.
She has been very actively participating and volunteering in the various projects and activities and was a devoted member of the Adoration Teams..

She was also a very active and supportive member of the Woodmere Subdivision Neighborhood Council who used to give me updates of the different projects and development through the years..

As a co member of the Board of Directors of the Philippines Louisiana Historical Society, (PLHSI)  I greatly appreciate her outstanding participation and support.  I am so happy and so proud of her extensive and enormous contribution,  her valuable and brilliant ideas which significantly been put into productive fruition of the various projects and activities of the Society ..

Dearest Tita Rosie and the Catubig Family, on behalf of our neighborhood friends here in Woodmere Subdivision and our Officers and Members of the Philippine Louisiana Historical Society, Inc, we thank you very much for your selfless dedication, Love,  and Support 💗💕❤️

I will always remember Atchie Rosie as a sweet & caring lady. The last time I met her was at Nina’s wedding. I did not have a chance to see her when she was in Manila. Have a nice reunion with cuya Andring.  Love, Dora

Bai Rosie was such a big part of my life.
She sent me to college by providing my tuition fees and school projects.
I could still remember how she asked me: "Antoy gabay mun laen, abogado, nurse or maestra?"
I responded with no second thought : Maestra, Bai.
From then, our relationship got deeper as she gave her pieces of advice on how am I should in college, how to be wise about love.. and so on.. 
I even bought few phone call card to call her abroad. And she always says: I'll love to receive postcards from you, and tell me your experiences.
From college, I got hired and taught in a private school, I got married, had a child and got employed as a public school teacher, she's with me. She was always there. And our conversation got to video calls via messenger.
I miss her.. I miss my Bai Rosie.
The best advice I got from her is about how to live a life with dignity and wisdom. Many people didn't understand her, but I love her disciplinary style.

To Bai Rosie, I know you're smiling right now.. together with Laki Andreng. 
I will be forever grateful for your love and support. May your soul rest in peace. 

Tita Rosie was always thrilled to cook fantastic meals for us when we visited.  We were so happy to see her with her Nolans.  Invariably, I would notice sometime in the course of the evening, that she hadn't sat down, she barely ate.  She would whirl around us making sure we were stuffed to the gills and smiling into next week.  She was so happy keeping everyone happy.  A joy has left us.

Dear Kuya, Ate and AJ,

There are no words to express the sorrow we feel for the passing of our dear Tita Rosie.  We have so many memories of our childhood spent with all of you as our neighbors in Rockaway.  Those were truly precious times.  

I just happen to come across this photo when I heard about Tita last week.  I believe this was in 1998 when Chris and I came to visit NY.  I am also glad my family got to meet Tito and Tita in New Orleans when we were there last in 2014.  Tita and Tito were beautiful souls, and we were so blessed to know them, and all of you as family.   

My mom and sister send their thoughts and prayers also.  I look forward to seeing them again when Jesus comes to take us all home.  

You are all welcome in Florida anytime.

As Atchi Rosie journey to her eternal rest, we rekindle our memories of her here on earth. In her immortality we rely on God’s promise of Jesus resurrection & promise of eternal life.
