He was born on July 6, 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Thomas and Anna (Wingerter) George. He was the beloved husband of Joyce Mary (Bodenheimer) George who preceded him in death.
After serving in the United States Army for 2 years, Merlin returned to New Orleans and started his career as a dedicated employee of O’Donnell Bros Printing Co and later the Rivas Printing Co. Over the years he enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling and visiting the casino. Later, his life consisted of him walking his neighborhood, reading his newspaper and watching his cowboy shows. Merlin will be greatly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles George, Kenneth George, and Thomas George Jr.; and sisters Melanie (George) Brandstetter, Elanie (George) Bevelacqua, Claire “Lois” (George) Smith, and Evon (George) Scherer.
He is survived by his four loving children, Malinda (George) Riehm (Thomas); Merlin George, Jr. (Mary); Melanie (George) Richard (David); and Kenneth George. Along with grandchildren Merlin George, III; Thomas Riehm, III; Monica George Riggs; Erin Richard Dickson; Jacob Richard; Paul Riehm; and Kaleb George. Merlin is also the proud great-grandfather of 15.
He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and good friends.
Merlin was a native New Orleanian and resident of Terrytown LA for 63 years.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home. A visitation will begin at 9:00AM and continue until the service time. Merlin will be laid to rest following the service at St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
