Louis "The General" Michael Matherne Sr.

Louis Michael "The General" Matherne, Sr. passed away on June 29, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born on January 28, 1939 to the late Louis Paul and Grace Christen Matherne. Husband of the late Gail Granier Matherne and survived by his second wife, Antoinette Fabre Matherne. Loving father of Louis Michael Matherne, Jr. (Melissa) and step-father of Lynette Morein and Robert J. Hale, Jr. (Tammy). Proud grandfather of Lance Matherne and the late Devin Matherne, Sr. (Latoria Wilson) and step-grandfather of Dwayne Morein, Jordan Bowers, Lauren Dufrene and Sydney Hale. Proud great-grandfather of Kali and Devin Matherne, Jr. and Passion and Nicholas Wilson. Godfather of Donna Jean Arabie and the late Rory Boudreaux.

The General grew up on the bayou. He loved fishing for speckled trout and duck hunting. He began commercial fishing when he was 14 years old and continued for about 50 years and worked as a trapper during the winter for about 30 years. He enjoyed making his living off of the land and water but most of all he loved spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren. Louis was loved and will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, July 3, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM immediately followed by the interment at St. Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point.
