Larry Michael Murphy, 76, of Marrero, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Unwavering in his love for GOD, Family, Country and Community, Larry was dedicated to service in every aspect of his life.
Larry was born on July 6, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois where he began an incredible journey that empowered him to become an extraordinary protector and teacher for those around him. Through his vast life experiences with family, distinguished military career in the US Navy, travels and his faith journey as a Deacon, Larry found great purpose in using words to relive these experiences, successes, joys, and challenges to reach people in all walks of life revealing lessons learned and to be learned with family. He was a humble and proud man, with a gift to touch everyone that crossed his path.
Larry is survived by his beautiful bride and the love of his life of 53 years, Bonita Ann Kostycz. son-in-law, Tom Amundson; his children, Monique, Michele, Shannon and Sean; and his grand-daughter Arren as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends across the globe. Larry was predeceased by his parents Nelson & Shirley Murphy; his in-laws Adam & Bernice Kostycz; his brother, Scott Murphy; his brother-in-law and niece, Warren & Gayle Kostycz, his son, Warren Murphy, and best feline companion Breeze.
A special thanks to all Larry’s caregivers who assisted, prayed and cared for him during the last 3 months. You all went above and beyond to help him in countless ways, at all hours of the day and night. There were no limits to your outpouring of love and willingness to tackle any task needing to be done on his behalf.
Family, neighbors, and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Larry’s life, which will be held at St. Martha Catholic Church located at 2555 Apollo Ave, Harvey, LA 70058 on Monday, March 13, 2023. Visitation starts at 8:00 am and Mass to follow at 10:00 am.
