Johnnie Nelson

Johnnie Nelson passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010. She was the longtime companion of David Blackmon, and mother of Julie Nelson, Jeremy Houston, Joshua Houston, Anthony Houston and Leah Houston as well as the stepmother of David Blackmon, Jr., Jason Blackmon and Stephen Blackmon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Susie and Lonnie Huckaby. She was the sister of Dorothy McCollum, Shirley Fowler, Judy Butler, Betty Waring, and the late Lonnie (Bill) Huckaby, as well as half-sister of Joe Mooneyham, Carl Mooneyham and Jimmy Mooneyham. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Westside Funeral Home once enough money is raised for the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ms. Nelson’s 17 year old daughter, Leah Houston, to help offset the cost of her mom’s final expenses. Any donations may be dropped off or mailed to Westside Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA 70072 in either Leah’s name or Ms. Nelson’s name.
