James "Jimmy" John Gros

James "Jimmy" Gros passed away on April 5, 2022 at the age of 66. He was born on December 10, 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Percy and Juliette Guillot Gros. Loving brother of Theresa Schassar (Fred), George Gros (Mary Ann), Yvonne Prowell (the late James), Ruby Gross and Patricia Prowell (the late Larry) and the late Howard Gros (the late Vivian), Larry Gros, Leroy Gros (the late Geraldine), Shirley Boos (the late James) and Percy Gros. Proud uncle of Deborah DeLeo (Richard, Kristi (Chris) and Katie (Vic)), Calvin Gravois (Trisha, John and Tracy), Bobby Gravois (Brandon (Ashley) and Jordan (John)), Brian, Darren, James, Roxanne, JR., Juliette, Beverly Parks (Keith), Melanie Guidroz (Junior), Ronnie Guidroz (Ann), Nichole, Kenneth Gros (Shelly), Melody, Kelly Sue, Paul and Douglas. Jimmy is also survived by the Schassar family: Kent, Pam, John (Jen), Brian (Tiffany), Brad and Jennifer, many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, dear friends and his furbaby, Allie. Jimmy was preceded in death by his girlfriend Ya-Ya.

Jimmy was the most loving person you would ever meet. He brought joy to everyone. He lived most of his life in Westwego, spending the last 26 of those years with Theresa and Fred. He enjoyed going to church and Boomtown, or as he would say "Second floor, Action", eating fried chicken and little cakes, and having parties. He especially loved to dance and sing. His favorite song was "Elvira" by the Oakridge Boys and his favorite word was "April". Jimmy also had a knack for giving everyone nicknames. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Westwego EMS and the doctors and nurses at West Jefferson Medical Center, second floor SCU, especially his nurse Megan for the love and care that they showed Jimmy.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, April 9, 2022 beginning at 10:00 AM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero. Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 PM and interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery.
