James Joseph DeSalvo

James “Herk” Joseph DeSalvo entered peacefully into heaven on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the age of 75. He is survived by his devoted wife Catherine Ann Sutton DeSalvo of 51 years. A loving father of Lonnie Joseph DeSalvo and Scott Anthony DeSalvo. Son of the late Rosalie Chimento DeSalvo and Mike DeSalvo. Preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Victoria D. Ledet, Frank DeSalvo, Raymond DeSalvo and Patricia D. Rabon. Survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-laws, Rudolph Ledet, Dora DeSalvo and Billy Rabon, Sr. He was also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Herk” retired from Geosource Ship Yard in 1984 and worked for Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Harvey as their groundskeeper. He enjoyed crabbing, craw fishing, fishing, growing vegetables and flowers in his garden and spending time with family and friends. He would give his home grown vegetables to his neighbors, family and friends. He was a very honest and hardworking provider for his family and would help anyone who needed his help.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expy., Marrero, LA on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 700 Maple Ave. Harvey, LA at 11:00 am. Visitation at the church from 9:30 am until Mass time. Interment following in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna.
