She was the beloved wife of the late David G. Gilbert; mother of David M. Gilbert (Tracey), James D. Gilbert, and the late Paul D. Gilbert; Daughter of the late Iris and James Browning; sister of Jo Ann Jones, Betty Perwe, and Ira Browning, as well as the late John Browning and Donnie Browning. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. The family would like to particularly note the very close relationship she had with Justinia Billiot and Joshmin Nolan, along with their thanks for the tremendous help they have been. She is also preceded in death by her canine child, Colonel, and survived by Shadow and Annie.
She was born and raised as a simple country girl on a farm in Winnsboro, LA. She worked for Home Depot in Marrero and Monroe for almost three decades, developing many friends who became more than just coworkers and customers, but family. She was a great cook, and will be remembered for her pecan pies and the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. She loved spending time working in her flower beds, and was rightfully proud of them. Her gardening expertise was not only displayed at her home, but shared with many of her Home Depot customers as she spent many years giving good advice.
A Memorial Visitation will be held in the parlor of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.WestsideLeitzEagan.com for the Gilbert family.
