Candise Ann "Candy" Guedry sadly and unexpectedly gained her angel wings on Monday March 7, 2022 while being treated at Ochsner Westbank Medical Center. In heaven, she was greeted by her late parents Allen and Alma Guedry, her only daughter Pandora Ann Brennan, brothers Allen Gudery and David Guedry , Sister Renee Guedry Koch ( Ernie ) and so many of her fur babies, including Bentley, Babe, Princess, Caramella, Lucky , Sweetie, and Missy. She was a native of Belle Chasse and alumni of RIver Oaks Academy. Candy is survived by her sister Denise Guedry Charters (Todd), nephew Robert, niece Meghan (Kyle) , great nephews Jace and Kade , great nieces Presley Rae and Adalynn, and Godmother Doris Eckleman.
Candy recently retired in February from Tulane University's School of Science and Engineering Department. She began her Tulane career over 30 years ago and was the heart and soul of the Engineering Dean's office at Tulane. Candy was beloved by the graduate students that she served in her mid career as their official "den mother," particularly the international students for whom she helped arrange visas to attend Tulane in a post 911 world. One of her international graduate students described Candy as "his personal Joni Mitchell." In 2006 she shifted roles to working more with the schools alumni and ultimately retired as the program manager for SSE. Candy worked many banner events including the university's graduate ceremonies, the Tulane Engineering Forum, the SSE Board of Advisors meetings and awards dinners. She also managed the content for the School of Science and Engineering website. Candy served as assistant to several deans throughout the years, mainly Stathis Michaelides, Nicholas Altiero, and Kimberly Foster. Candy was ultimately awarded Honorary Alumni Status by the Tulane Alumni Association Board for her unwavering dedication and love to the University that she served for over 3 decades.
Anyone who knew Candy knew of the love that she had for animals. Candy often spoke about looking forward to sitting on her porch surrounded by her feline family when she retired. She looked forward to being able to help keep her great nieces and nephews on "COVID Days," since school was closed so often. Years after losing her beloved daughter, Pandora, Candy found a way to begin to live life again, finding much comfort and solace in being with the family that she had left. She loved being with the kids no matter where...at the park, zoo, trampoline park, family gatherings, shrimp and crawfish boils, or simply at home. Sadly, she will miss all for which she worked so hard and the retirement that she so anticipated.
Family would like to express their gratitude to Emily and Chad Picheloup for their friendship and care during Candy's time of need.
