Bryan John Despaux (66) of Barataria, Louisiana passed peacefully surrounded in love with his family beside him on June 1, 2024. Bryan, affectionately known as “Coon” was born to the late John “Johnny” and Myrna C. Despaux on October 1, 1957. A lifelong resident of Barataria, Bryan graduated from Fisher High School in 1975 and later became a commercial fisherman. He was the skillful and respected Captain of the commercial boat “Johnny’s Dream” until he joined the ranks of Kellogg Brown & Root in Chalmette where he would work until he retired in 2020. A loyal husband, a devoted and committed father, and a loving grandfather, Bryan’s kind and gentle spirit is carried on by his wife, Connie L.; their children, Chad (Lori) Despaux and Monique (Patrick) Henderson; their grandchildren, Chad “Hokie” Despaux, Jr., Patrick “Bubba” Henderson, Jr. and Gabrielle “Gabby/Sunshine” Henderson; Bryan’s siblings, Byron J. Despaux, Sr. (Suzanna) and Penny D. Simon (Lloyd), along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The Despaux family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to Pastor Jeff Smith and the members of Barataria Baptist Church, Father Kyle Sanders of St. Joachim Church, Dr. Clement Eiswirth and his team at the Ochsner Heart Failure Clinic, Dr. Ahmed Shanableh, Compassus Hospice, and most especially Bryan’s Home Health Nurse, Keisha Palmer.
To honor Bryan’s memory, a Visitation will be held at Barataria Baptist Church located at 2596 Jean Lafitte Blvd., Lafitte, LA on Thursday, June 6, 2024 beginning at 9:00 a.m. with services to follow at noon. A private interment for the family will immediately follow. At the conclusion of services, all are welcome to join for a repast in celebration of Bryan’s life at Barataria Baptist Church.
