Pete Contella

He died In Marlin January 15,2013. He was 101 Years old.

His parents were Vick Contella, from Poggioreale, Sicily,Italy,

Lena SanFilippo Contella, from Partanna,Sicily, Italy.He grew up in the

Brazos Valley with many more Italians that migrated there from all over

the US, but mostly from Louisiana.He left there about age 21, and moved

to Eloise,Texas. Again accompanied by many Italian families that settled

in Eloise and Highbank, Texas.

Pete married in 1935, to Myrtle Nixon, and they had 2 children,

Lena and Vick. He left Eloise, and lived in several places, and

worked different jobs, until 1954, he went into business with

2 cousins, Frank and Pat Abate, in cotton picking machines.

This took him to several locations per year, Arizona, Maricopa

County, Marlin, Texas, and in South Texas, in the Valley.

He retired from the company about 1977, and has been living

in Marlin, until he died. He was married 3 times. After Myrtle died,

he married Kay Wilson, and they had a son Joseph Henry.

He later married Eva Jeanette Bedgood, and she died in 2000.

He has spent his time planting a garden every year. He loved

fishing at the City Lake. His most enjoyable pastime was

playing dominoes, every day with his best friens, Delbert Blazer.

They played dominoes every day, until Delbert died, in 2005.

His other best pal, Red Densman, was his fishing buddy. He

moved to Livingston in 2007. He always said that the worst thing

about growing old was to watch friends and family leave him behind.

The last few years of his life he still had a garden every year,

and went fishing almost every day. He lived at Golden Years

Nursing Home, under the care of Dr.David Fedro, the last year of his life.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Lena McCann, and

her husband, Kenneth, and son Joe Contella, and Crystal Reed.

His grandchildren Vickie Gentile,and husband Joseph, from LaPorte,

TX, Valerie Burleson,from Highlands, TX. PhilipContella, and his

wife Denise, from Magnolia,TX and Michael Contella, and his

wife Carol Lea from Waco. Also Amanda Nicole Contella Kay and

Carys Reed, born in 2010, in Marlin. He left 11 great grandchildren,

and 2 great-great grandchildren, which live in England. Our thanks

go to Thelma Blazer, a great friend, that was always there for him

when he needed her. Also left to remember him are many nieces,

nephews,cousins, and friends that will miss him.

He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father. His son Vick

Contella, and his son, Vickie Ray, who died when 1 day old. His

4 siblings, Joe Contella, Josephine Bruno, Paul Contella, and Willie

Mae Downes. Also gone before him is his 3 wives.

He will be buried at Hillcrest Cemetary, on January 17, 2013, at 1PM.

There will be a memorial at noon, January 16, at Adams Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Philip Contella, Michael Contella, Michael Contella, Jr.,

Jimmy Krumnow, Devette Simpson, and Charles McGowen.

Honorary Pallbearers are Eddy Kay and Marshall Mundy.
