Edna Jean Mitchell, of Marlin, passed away Thursday, October 09, 2014 in Waco. Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014, at The First United Methodist Church of Marlin, with Doug Howell officiating.
Jean was born in 1931 to Newton and Altha Lloyd in Kosse, TX and had one older sister, Ruby. She lived in the Marlin area her entire life and attended Kosse, Reagan, and Marlin schools. Jean married Ray Mitchell, December 26, 1953 in Marlin where they lived, ranched, and raised their family. Jean has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlin since 1949, where she was active in United Methodist Women’s Circle and assisted teaching the Wesleyan SS class for many years. She was a member of the “Learners Club”, and enjoyed playing bridge and being with friends in “Crazy Ladies” and Thursday afternoon “Bridge Clubs”. Jean loved being a home maker and was even laughed at by friends because she actually enjoyed ironing. She was a loving mother and her greatest pleasure was caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Mitchell, one sister, Ruby Williams, and an infant brother.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael (Mike) Mitchell, and wife, Antoinette, of Robinson; Mark Mitchell, and wife, Gina, of Keller; seven grandchildren, Michael Mitchell II, and wife Magen, of Lorena; James Mitchell, and wife, Amber, of Satin, William Mitchell, and fiancé, Kayla Crunk, of Robinson; Ray J. Mitchell, of Robinson; Samuel, Jacob, and Claire Mitchell of Keller. Jean is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Madison and Michael Ray Mitchell III, of Lorena; two sister-in-laws, Gladys Mitchell, of Marlin, Margaret Ann Dwyer, of Houston, also, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
