Henry T. Winkelmann, 88, of Riesel, passed away Nov 21, 2012. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Nov 25, 2012, at Friedens E&R United Church of Christ in Riesel, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Pal Szabo officiating. Burial will follow at Friedens Cemetery in Riesel. Visitation will be held Sat., Nov 24, 2012, from 5-7, at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin.
Henry was born June 6, 1924 near Mart, TX to Fred and Annie Winkelmann. On September 20, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mae Finn, who preceded him in death on September 26, 1991. They resided in Riesel, where Henry was very active in the community. Henry helped form the Volunteer Fire Dept in Riesel in the 1950’s, where he served as Fire Chief, as well as a Fireman for many years. He was a member of Friedens E&R United Church of Christ in Riesel for over 60 years, and also was a member of the Riesel Lions Club. He worked for General Tire Company for over 30 years. Henry enjoyed riding horses, specifically trail riding, as he took part in the Cedar Brake Trail Ride for numerous years. In his later years, Henry looked forward to his morning domino games with local friends at the coffee shop. Henry was well liked by everyone, having countless friends, whom along with his family will miss him dearly.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers Fred and Bill Winkelmann; and five sisters Sophie Schlemmer, Hattie Schmedthorst, Alvine Schraeder Knudson, Anita Harwell, and Annie Springer.
He is survived by his son, Larry Winkelmann and wife Peggy, of Huntsville; two daughters Linda Warneke and husband Dwyane of Waco, and Stacy Larpenter of Riesel; grandsons Lee Warneke, Jason and wife Leah, and Nathan Winkelmann; granddaughter Kelise Larpenter; great-grandsons Brandon and Dalton Warneke; sister Lorena Jander and husband Louis of Brenham; brother Wilburn Winkelmann and wife Dovie of China Spring; brother-in-law Johnny Harwell of Elm Mott; sister-in-law Adeline Finn of Bellmead; special friend Gertrude Kattner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Winkelmann, Jason Winkelmann, Deryl Schlemmer, Harding Schmedthorst, Harvey Schraeder, and Larry Jander. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kelise Larpenter, Brandon Warneke, and Dalton Warneke.
