Helen Marstaller Newman, age 92, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012. She is gone from our sight, but will live forever in our hearts. A graveside service will be on Wed. Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Cemetery, 212 FM 2307, Marlin, Texas followed by a memorial service in St. Paul United Church of Christ with Ludy Manthei officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Adams Funeral Home.
Helen was born on September 16, 1919 to Otto Marstaller and Annie Nehring Marstaller. She lived in the North Prairie Community where she went to public school. She married Herbert R. Newman on February 1, 1936 in Golinda, Texas. They later moved to Falls County and settled in the St. Paul Community near Marlin in the early 1940’s. Helen was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ for over 65 years. She loved music, enjoyed playing the piano in earlier years and also enjoyed singing in the church choir. She loved the outdoors and tending her many gardens. Some may remember her when she worked in Ben Franklin Variety Store in Marlin for several years in the fabric department. She enjoyed her time there and all the customers that she came to know and help. Some of Helen’s favorite past times were sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was a dedicated homemaker and a very proud mother and grandmother.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband who died on August 21, 1993; her parents; her sisters Matilda Pinter, Elizabeth Andrews and infant brother, Otto Marstsaller, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice L. Kluck and husband, Ernest of Marlin; sons, Donald G. Newman and wife, Helen of Cleburne, Texas and Gordon E. Newman and wife, Mary Kate of Lutz, Florida; grandchildren, Kevin S. Kluck and wife, Jennifer of Marlin, Texas, Kellie A. Tubbs and husband, Rob of College Station, Texas, Cody Newman of Conroe, Texas, Morgan Newman of College Station, Texas and Michael Newman of Fresno, Texas; great grandchildren, Sarah Kluck and Lane Kluck of Marlin, Texas, Corbin Tubbs, Caleb Tubbs, Tristan Tubbs and Owen Tubbs all of College Station; Surviving her also is her sister, Mabel Cassens of Robinson, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gene Wilkey, William Polster, Leonard Polster, John Schrader, Joe Basquez, and Ryan Rummel.
