Don was born in Mart, Texas to Freda and Martin Price and lived most of his life in Mart as a Farmer and Seed Dealer. He also served several of his younger years in the National Guard. Don met the love of his life at age 5 and vowed that someday he would marry that pretty little girl. At age 19 he married his special love Clarice Virginia Matthys and they remained faithful to each other for 61 years and 10 months until the Lord called her to be with him. He loved farming and being outdoors, but more than anything he loved being with and spending time with his wife.
Don was a member of Grace Lutheran in Mart, Texas during his childhood and later after marriage was a member of Trinity Lutheran Riesel, Texas all of his adult life. He served many offices at Trinity; he was Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, Elder and held many other offices within the church. He had a love for music and was a member of the Texas Pride band; playing mostly Polkas, Waltz and Two steps. He was left handed and played the accordion upside down. He and his wife sang duets with the band and later at the Marlin Jamboree; they also sang for many other events in the community. Even though music was his passion he also enjoyed being with his family and playing Dominoes, Yahtzee, Canasta and Wa Hoo. The favorite and most memorable was when the family would play monopoly in the winter when they were snowed in.
Don had a very caring heart for anyone he felt was in need. He would give his last dime to help a person out. He loved his three daughters and taught them to be honest hard workers with Christian morals and values; to share the love of the Lord with others. He enjoyed when his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren came for visits. His smile would get bigger and brighter. He enjoyed teaching them and holding them in his arms.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia, parents Freda and Martin Price, in laws Selma and Max Matthys, grandson Jeramie Whitehead, son in law Ted Lewis. Survivors include his three daughters Jeanette Lewis, Jenifer and husband Carl Buchanan, Stephanie and husband Steve Johnson.
Seven grandchildren Andrea and husband Wayne Akins, Justin Lewis, Melissa and husband Shawn Knight, Brittany and husband Thomas Williams, Jonathan Buchanan, Timothy and wife Brianna Buchanan, Carmen and husband Colton Martin.
