Mr. Brendle was born June 26, 1940, in McDowell County, NC to the late George Norman Brendle and Julia Smith Brendle.
He was a member of Cornerstone Church of God in Marion, and he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. His early career started with Dow Chemical Company and he retired after 30 years from Schlumberger Oil Field Service and then returned to the workforce with Thompson Industrial Services.
R.D. was known for his huge collection of baseball cards and antiques. He was also a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves and UNC Tarheels. Above all else, R.D. loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Brendle and a sister, Joy Brendle.
Surviving Mr. Brendle are his sons Rob Brendle (Sharon) of Walterboro, SC; Ross Brendle of Baltimore, MD, and Ryan Kepley (Rachel) of Greenville, SC; daughters, Kim Ledbetter (David) of Morganton, NC, Lisa Scoggins (Alan) of Taylorsville, NC, Julia Brendle of Marion and Jody Witner of Greensboro, NC.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Billy Dean Stockton, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Nealsville Church of God Cemetery in Marion. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
