Marion, NC
Mae Tilda Gillespie, 88, of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully, when God called her home and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain, NC.
Ms. Gillespie was born on January 15, 1930, in McDowell County, to the late Robert Weldon Gillespie and Sina Jane Presnell.
She was a lifelong member of Clinchfield United Methodist Church in Marion. Ms. Gillespie started working at an early age at the Clinchfield Cotton Mill to help support her family and was retired from Baxter Healthcare.
Mae was one of the sweetest, kindest, most loving and giving souls that God ever put on this earth. Everyone who knew her loved her and they knew she loved them. She had a humble and gentle spirit, and a big heart. She was a devoted daughter, and cared for her mother all the rest of her days. She loved and adored her nieces and nephews and claimed them as her own children. She was a second mother to all of them and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Nonive Morgan and a brother, Billy Robert Gillespie.
Surviving Ms. Gillespie are her nieces, Linda (Gary) Lewis, of Old Fort and Jane Morgan of Glenwood; nephews, Mitch (Barbara) Gillespie and Keith (Liz) Gillespie, both of Marion; a special friend and companion, Ed Shuford, of Burnsville, NC; and many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews, whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to express their gratitude and send a very special thank you to all of the staff at Mtn. Ridge Wellness Center for the loving care they gave to Mae during her time there.
Memorials may be made in Mae Gillespie’s memory to: McDowell County Meals on Wheels, c/o McDowell County Senior Center, 100 Spaulding Rd., Marion, NC 28752.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home with her beloved first cousin, Raymond Jernigan, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
