Joseph Frank Mahoney Jr.

Joseph Frank Mahoney, Jr., age 91, of Burnsville, NC, formerly of Jensen Beach, FL, went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 26, 1925 in Trenton, NJ to the late Joseph Frank Mahoney, Sr. and Elizabeth Schaffer Mahoney. Mr. Mahoney was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp. He worked as an Airline Pilot for United Airlines for over 33 years, until his retirement. He was a very active member of Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) where he served in several different positions including two terms as Union Chairman for his domicile. Mr. Mahoney was also a member of Faith Fellowship Church in New Dale, NC where he served as Deacon. He volunteered in prison ministries in FL and NC as well as volunteering for Hospice of Yancey County for over 14 years. Mr. Mahoney will forever be remembered as someone who loved to help others.

Surviving Mr. Mahoney are his beloved wife of 53 years, Rachel Rice Mahoney; four children, Michael Mahoney (Julie) of Manassas, VA, Janis Mahoney of Baltimore, MD, Jeff Mahoney (Nancy) of Annandale, NJ and Peter Mahoney (Sharleen) of Cape Coral, FL; and six grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Faith Fellowship Church with Pastor David Gillespie and Pastor Peter Mahoney officiating.
