Charles Dolphus “Tater Bug” Tate, age 67, of Hickory, NC, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
Mr. Tate was born on October 10, 1948 in McDowell County, NC to Geneva Tate and the late Charles Dolphus Tate, Sr.
He was of the Baptist faith and worked in a variety of manufacturing jobs throughout his lifetime. Mr. Tate was also a professional painter and loved to tinker and fix things. He was known for his great sense of humor and good heart. He enjoyed being outside fishing, hunting and gardening and he loved his family most of all.
In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, John Wayne Tate, and Larry Tate, Sr., and one sister, Elaine Tate.
Surviving Mr. Tate are his wife, Linda Sue Tate; two sons, Cassius Rubin (Ruth) Tate and Antonio “Tony” Tate both of Morganton, NC; a daughter, Aketa (Donald) Tate of Lenoir, NC and a step-daughter, Shante Floyd of Hickory, NC; a brother, Earl (Georgia) Tate of WV; four sisters, Sheila Wilkerson of Rutherfordton, NC, Rosenna Lytle of WV, Vangie Mason of Lake Lure, NC, and Dot Carson of Nebo, NC; Nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 22, 2016 in the McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. James Wilfong officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s AME Church Cemetery in Nebo, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
