Billy "Bill" John Woods

Mr. Woods was born November 17, 1934, in Piedmont, Alabama to the late Hal Hawkins Woods and Venice Ima Anderson Woods. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, John; two sisters, and two brothers.

Mr. Woods retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service. Afterward, he worked for Xerox Corporation in Tampa, Florida and Asheville, NC, retiring in 1994.

Mr. Woods was an active member of the FBC of Asheville having served as a Greeter and was a member of the Basics Sunday School Class. He also was a former member of the Board of Directors of the homeowners association of Wildwood Gardens in Fletcher. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing in the mountains of western North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Hemphill Woods of Fletcher; one daughter, Paula Huffman and husband, Daryl of Concord, NC; two sons, Dr. Michael Holland and his wife Trisha of Cypress, California, and Rev. Tim Holland of Charlotte, NC., six grandchildren, Nickolas and Miranda Huffman of Concord, NC, Kaylin and Alyssa Holland of Charlotte, Jordan Holland of New York City, and Ben Holland of San Francisco, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Mr. Woods will be held Saturday, November 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Asheville with Dr. Guy Sayles, Rev. David Blackburn and Rev. Lea Brown officiating. His family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Burial will be Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Western North Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain with full military rites.
