Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the age of 84. Born March 31, 1941 in
Columbus, Georgia, Bill was the son of the late Harvey and Edna Kelly.
He was raised In Phenix City, Alabama and graduated from Central High
School.
Bill attended the University of Alabama and received a Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity
where he established and then nurtured lifelong friendships. Upon
graduation, he served his country in the Signal Corp of the United
States Army at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia as a 1 st Lieutenant.
Thereafter, Bill took advantage of the GI Bill and returned to the
University of Alabama to obtain a Master’s degree in Banking and
Finance. Later, he attended Stonier Graduate School of Banking at
Rutgers University.
Bill had a long and successful banking career. His career started in 1968
at the First Union National Bank in Greensboro, NC. In 1975, Bill came
to Marietta, GA as a Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer at the
First National Bank of Cobb County. Through the years, he worked at
other financial institutions in the community. Bill was well respected
and liked by both his customers and fellow bankers. He retired in 2009
after over 40 years in banking.
Bill was a man of faith, a devoted Christian. He was a long-time active
member of the Marietta First United Methodist Church and the John
Strother Sunday School Class. Bill was committed to his community
where he was actively involved with Marietta Metro Rotary, Cobb
County Chamber of Commerce and various other volunteer positions
such as Must Ministry. A true animal lover, Bill also spent time fostering
dogs for Road Trip Home.
Bill never met a stranger. He had a warm and welcoming personality,
always willing to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement.
Bill was a true gentleman. He touched many lives with his compassion
and wisdom, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Bill leaves behind his devoted wife, Gail Kelly, three children, daughter
Kathy Hall (Quinn), sons Keith and Zackary Kelly, grandsons Taylor Hall
(Nicole), Davis Hall, and Carter Hall and great grandson Hudson Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on April 22, 2025 at Marietta
First United Methodist Church, 56 Whitlock Ave, Marietta, GA 30064.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm prior to the service.
A private Interment will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta
immediately following the service.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
Marietta First United Methodist Church in memory of Bill Kelly.
