William Lee Doak (Bill) age 85 of Dunwoody, GA passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2016 after a long struggle with liver cancer. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Emma Lee Grimes Doak and Hoyt B. Doak on November 14, 1930. He graduated high school from Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN where he excelled academically and was on BGA’s football team. Bill went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. He also proudly served for the US Air Force at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, GA.
Bill was a mechanical engineer for over 30 years for various firms including Dravo and Sandwell Inc. He was a true gentleman, kind hearted and selfless, always putting others first. Bill was a beloved football coach for many years at Murphy Chandler Park where he made lifelong friends. He enjoyed sports and cheering for the Falcons, Braves, UGA and his Alma Mater “Vandy.”
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Steven Lee Doak and daughter Catherine Ann Doak. Also preceding him in death were his brothers John H. Doak, Hoyt B. Doak, Jr and sister Dorothy D. Hahn. He is survived by his wife, Jane Rodenberg Doak of Marietta, daughter Julie Doak Abboud and son in law Thomas Scott Abboud of Alpharetta, daughter in law Tricia D. Morris and son in law Lovell Jason Morris III (Jay) of Signal Mountain, TN. Also surviving Bill are his five grandchildren, William Benjamin Doak, Alan Joseph Doak (Elizabeth M. Doak), Thomas Cessna Doak, Lovell (Jason) Morris IV, Sarah Caroline Abboud, Steven Thomas Abboud and great granddaughter Catherine Louise (Kaky) Doak.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sunshine (programs for children with cancer) 1850 Clairmont Rd, Decatur,GA 30033.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 am at H.M. Patterson & Sons, 173 Allen Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30328.
