Mr. Wallace "Wally" Beard, 81, of Marietta, GA passed away May 24, 2013. He was born to the late Henry and Bernice Beard on September 21, 1931 in Reedsport, Oregon. He grew up in San Francisco and met the love of his life, Christine, at Mission High School. After Wally graduated from high school, he attended San Jose State University, he then served in the US Army. After his honorable service during the Korean War, he finished college at San Jose State with a bachelor's degree. Wally began his career working for Fiber Board Paper Co, and retired from Mead as the Vice President of Administration. A world traveler, Wally, with his wife, visited all 7 continents, all 50 states and over 100 countries. His favorite way to travel was by freighter ship. Wally traveled around the world 3 times, two of those was on a freighter ship. He was an avid sports fan and golfer. Wally was very involved with the Kiwanis Club, a member of the Sons of Italy and volunteered his time with the USO. Wally was active with Habitat for Humanity. He was a fateful volunteer of the Assistance League of Atlanta. Wally was a past President of Friends of Atlanta Opera support group. He was am avid volunteer with the Atlanta Special Olympics. Wally was a volunteer at Mountain View Arts Center. He was a past Board member of Mended Hearts. Wally volunteered for St. Ann’s 50 plus group luncheon’s. He was extremely patriotic, honest, kind and lovable, never wanting to miss an opportunity to help someone in need. He also loved to eat, especially his wife's home cooking. Wally leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Christine Beard, children, Wally Beard, Jr, Linette Hagaman (Jim), Chad Beard (Amy) and Garth Beard (Angi), 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and sister, Mary Towles. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00pm at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel, Marietta, GA. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00am at The Catholic Church of St. Ann. Inurnment service will be on Friday at 10:30am at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton. Wally will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
