Life's journey came to an end for Thomas E. Starr, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on February 14, 2025. Thomas E. Starr was born to Nellie Starr-Broughton on December 23, 1937, in Vinings, Georgia. He was raised with a strong work ethic and an adventurous spirit.
Thomas graduated from high school while serving in the Navy in San Diego,California. He served as an Aircraft Mechanic during two enlistments, from August 17, 1955, to December 19, 1959, and again from January 6, 1959, to December 14, 1962, before beginning his career with General Motors. He was also a faithful member of Tabernacle COGIC under the leadership of the late Roy Hardin. Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Starr-Broughton, and his brothers, George Starr and Willie James Starr.
On December 17, 1997, Thomas married the love of his life, Sharon Starr, forming a beautiful union that flourished for 27 years. Together, they lovingly embraced a blended family, including children Tommy R. Starr, Chad Thomas, Kenny Smith, Michael Jones, Apryl Kioko, and Christopher Jones. Also, his nephew Curtis Starr and son Brandon, and niece Wanda Williamson. They built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Thomas was a man of many passions——fishing, boating, reading, playing Pinochle, fixing cars, and bowling. Whether out on the water or under the hood of a car, Thomas found joy in the simple things, always eager to share his skills and stories with those around him.
Thomas leaves behind his grandchildren: Randell Starr, Micah Jones, Kayla Jones, Eman'E-Gabriel Cliatt, Christion Jones, Selena Jones, Evelio Cliatt Ill,Eva-Sage Cliatt, Torence Cliatt, Baylei Jones, Christa Jones, and Brandyn Jones. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Carmen-Giselle Lyons and Hendrix Scudder, his best friend Keith DeGannes, and his close friend Cornelius from the Emory Heart Clinic, along with a host of other friends and family members.
