Scott Stephen Shockley passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 after a courageous battle with osteosarcoma. Scott lived a wonderful and vibrant life, full of joy and optimism. During his 19 ½ years on this earth, Scott loved spending time at the lake, fishing and hanging out with his family, friends and of course his dog, Daisy. Scott’s greatest passion was playing sports, being part of a team and competing at a high level. During his freshman year at Auburn University, he was a manager for the baseball team and a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. While attending The Walker School, Scott was a three sport athlete lettering in baseball, football and basketball, and was a nationally ranked long snapper. During Scott’s high school years he was Homecoming King, Walker’s Pitcher of the Year and a member of Walker Peer Leadership, as well as Cobb Youth Leadership. He was the inspiration for the “Walker Wolverines for Scott” foundation benefiting AFLAC Cancer and Blood Disorder Center at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
With a competitor’s heart and an unmatched excitement for life, Scott leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be deeply missed. Scott is preceded in death by grandparents Roy and Betty Shockley, Morristown, TN; Harry Hagebush, Kansas City, MO, Great Aunt Shirley Smith and cousin, Lindsey Trusler. Scott is survived by his parents, Steve and Terriann Shockley and sister, Stacy, of Marietta, GA; Grandmother, Wilma Hagebush, Kansas City, MO; Great Uncle Gordon Smith, Aunts and Uncles Debbie and Powell Trusler, El Paso, TX; Gary and Jane Hagebush, Omaha, NE; David and Elaine Hagebush, San Ramon, CA; Cousins: Powell and Hero Trusler, Kim Murphy, Channing Murphy, Chelsea Murphy, Megan and Cameron Krone, Rachael Hagebush and Christopher Hagebush.
The family will receive friends, at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel located at 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30068.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church located at 955 Johnson Ferry Rd Marietta, GA 30068 with Bonnie Hicks officiating. Please honor Scott by dressing in cheerful colors for his celebration. Doyle Hamilton will be officiating. Graveside services will be a private family event officiated by Doyle Hamilton
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust in Scott Shockley’s honor soon to be established. This trust will direct funds to osteosarcoma research as per Scott’s wishes.
