Ruby was born June 3, 1921 in Pennsylvania to Ammon and Frieda Huber. After graduating high school, Ruby attended business school becoming a secretary. On April 9, 1944, she was married to Frank Fulton Johnston. She later went on to become an RN, working in public health and later after raising a family, the private sector. Ruby was the Assistant Administrator at Canterbury Court in Atlanta for several years until she retired.
She was a long time active member of the Presbyterian Church and served in and volunteered in many different capacities over the years. Ruby was a Deacon, served as an officer in Church Women United, participated in Circle and was a Shepard. She also sang in the church choir.
At an early age Ruby developed a love for music. She learned to play the piano and violin. She was a member of the Cobb County Symphony for 25 years and the Bell Choir at Atherton Place, where she lived for the last 9 years. Ruby was also very involved in the activities at Atherton Place, serving on the Resident’s Council and volunteering to greet new residents. She had a wide range of hobbies including painting, beading, needlepoint, handmade Christmas ornaments and various other arts and crafts.
Family was very important to Ruby. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Johnston, sister Pearl Best and son Leonard Johnston. She is survived by her sons and their spouses Doug and Vickie Johnston, Glenn and Becky Johnston and Vernon and Kathy Johnson, daughter Helen and spouse Steve Williams, brother David Huber, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 11:00am at the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Denise Beltzner officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
