Bob is survived by his wife Janet Marcus, his children Frank (Valerie) of Woodstock, GA; Donna Doughten (Buzz) of Marietta, GA; Ken (Laura) of Moraga, CA., Jeff of Canton, GA.; daughter-in-law Michelle of Acworth, GA; and his precious grandchildren Lyla, Talia, Georgianna; and his adorable great grandchildren Michelle, Alexis and Nicholas, as well as a number of nieces and nephews whom he truly adored. He is preceded in death by his parents Phil and Ann Marcus, his brother David, and his beloved sons Larry and Matthew.
Bob was born in 1935 in Freeport, New York. He attended Emory University in Atlanta and graduated from NYU with a degree in Finance, after serving in the Army from 1957-1959. He started his insurance career working at John Hancock Life Insurance Company in New York City. Ever the entrepreneur, Bob decided to strike out on his own and open an independent insurance agency, Edgewood Agency in Hicksville, NY. After attending Emory University, he grew to love Atlanta so much that he and Janet packed up the kids and the family dog and moved to Marietta, GA. in 1975. Together they started Phoenix Associates Insurance Agency, which recently celebrated 45 years in business. Bob loved the insurance business and had a passion for helping people in all walks of life. He was highly respected in the industry and left a legacy that is now passed on to the second generation.
Bob was a loving father and husband. He and Janet recently celebrated 49 years of marriage and he was completely devoted to her. His family and friends will always remember him as the life of the party, with a laugh you would never forget. One of his greatest joys was having a meal with his family, especially one that included a glass (or two) of Johnny Walker Black and a plate of Egg Foo Young. He also loved to fish and walk on the beach at his second home in Hilton Head. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday October 29th at HM Patterson Funeral Home on Old Canton Road in Marietta from 5:00-8:00pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob’s life. A private memorial service will be held on Friday, October 30th for immediate family members due to Covid-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
