Robert Denison “Bob” Lipop, age 76, passed away on February 19, 2023. Bob was born in Atlanta, GA, on December 31, 1946 to Francis and Robert Lipop. He graduated from Southern Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and Georgia State with a degree in Business Administration. Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Culp Lipop.
He is survived by son, Rob Lipop; daughter, Catherine Lipop (Ross Taylor); sister, Joy Robinson (Chuck Robinson), and a host of beloved family and friends.
Bob served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He was a Distinguished Graduate in Officer Candidate School. During his service he completed a one-year tour in Vietnam serving in the Signal Corps supporting the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade. He received an Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert Medal and Pistol Marksman Medal. Bob received an honorable discharge and separated from the Army as a First Lieutenant in 1969.
Bob was an outdoorsman who loved spending his time hunting and working dogs, and building homes. He enjoyed teaching others and helping people learn new things. He found joy in building houses both on his own and with Habitat for Humanity. He cherished time with his kids and close family friends. He often reminisced of times gone by. Friends have described Bob as a man of principle and purpose, a man whose life reflected his relationship with God, and a man who had the heart of a teacher.
Bob passed after a brief diagnosis of Metastatic Melanoma that returned since original diagnosis in spring 2022.
The family will receive guests for a visitation between the hours of 10:00am and 11:30am on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at H.M. Patterson and Sons Canton Hill Chapel. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to GraceWorks Alaska by visiting GraceWorksAK.com.
