Rick (Richard Glenn) Gray was born on March 21, 1956 and passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside from complications from bladder cancer on March 23, 2015. Rick was a longtime resident of Marietta, GA, having attended Westside Elementary School, Marietta Junior High, and Marietta High School where he enjoyed playing tennis and participating in the marching band.
He attended Eckerd College where he earned a biology degree, and then attended the Medical College of Georgia where he received his MD. He did his internal medicine internship and residency at Georgetown University, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology at the Lombardi Cancer Center. From 1987 to 2014, he practiced oncology at Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers, impacting many people throughout the course of his career.
He was an active participant at North Metro Church, was part of a community group, and truly loved serving on the Parking Team. For the past six years, he was also a member of the Mount Paran Christian School Board of Directors. Rick’s hobbies included sailing, bicycling, reading, and vacationing with his family. Those that knew him were aware of his constant love of the water and especially turtles.
One of Rick’s lasting legacies will be the way that he treated all people with love and respect, regardless of their position. He was kind, friendly, and always smiling. Though his illness was challenging, he found great comfort in spending valuable time with family and friends. Above all, he was committed to his family and made many sacrifices in order to spend time with them.
Rick is survived by his wife, Beth Gray, his two sons, Michael Gray (23) and Daniel Gray (20), his parents, Glenn and Virginia Gray, brothers David Gray (Melanie) and Thom Gray (Nicole), and several nieces and nephews.
