Also known as “Ray”, he was born in Derby, Connecticut on May 7, 1941 to the late Raymond J. and Neda A. Marazzi Margiano, Sr.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of New Haven, a master’s degree in Business & Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a Ph.D. in International Business from Canbourne University.
Ray spent most of his early life in Connecticut, but made Atlanta, GA his home since 1985.
A veteran of the U. S. Navy, Ray proudly served aboard the Submarine U.S.S. Sailfish, SS-572.
After the Navy, Ray began his distinguished business career with Sikorsky Aircraft and would later establish his own company Shu-Re-Nu Equipment, Inc. in 1985, which he ultimately grew into Foot Solutions, Inc., an international operation, that had 700 outlets in 26 countries.
A member of the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame, Ray received numerous awards and recognitions for his achievements, including the Blue Chip Award, the Atlanta Business Person of the Year Award, Cobb Chamber Small Business Person of the Year, Vetrepreneur of the Year Award, and the Michael Minihane Award for Excellence in International Franchising presented by the International Franchise & Entrepreneurs Expo. He also received numerous awards from the Shoe Service Industry of America.
Despite his many entrepreneurial successes, Ray was humble about his accomplishments, and is most fondly remembered by his friends and loved ones for his generosity, an artistic personality, and his spirituality.
He was a painter and sculptor that left many works of art on canvas to his family. He earned a black belt in Karate and appreciated and studied forms of eastern exercise. As a younger man he was a soloist at St. Mary’s Cathedral. In the late 70’s he danced competitively and even won several dance competitions in New England.
A self-described “Italian Chef”, he delighted friends and family with his culinary skills, and often hosted 40-50 people in his home on all the major holidays. He was a builder, renovating his home and yard into an oasis. Ray was also a lover of the ocean from his younger years on Long Island Sound to the Navy exploring the depths of the sea up to the Artic Circle. He remained an avid sailor, kayaker, swimmer, and diver.
To quote his favorite song, “I planned each chartered course, and have lived a life that’s full.”
