

Wylene Houze Bailey died peacefully at her home in Marietta, Georgia, on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at the age of 85. Wylene is survived by her husband of 69 years, Virgil Bailey; children, Randy Bailey (Janet), Alison Douglas (Sandy), and Amy Bridges (Jon); grandchildren, Laura Fiedler (Lloyd), Blake Bailey, Jennifer Douglas, Nicole Ashley (Danny), Lindsey Thompson (Justin), Hillary Cox (Josh), and Mary Grace Bridges; great grandchildren, Abby Fiedler, Chyna Miles, Kenda Pugh, Aniyah Douglas, Alaina Ashley, Ellie Kate Ashley, and William Thompson; great great grandchildren, Kaydin Dewberry and Jasiah Blackmon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Houze and Dessie Davis Houze of Marietta, and her brother, Neal Houze, of Marietta. Wylene was born on September 9, 1935, in Marietta, Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Cobb County and attended Marietta High School. During her teen years she worked at Atherton’s Drug Store on the square in Marietta. She and Virgil met in Marietta and were married in 1951. In the 1950’s she worked as an administrative assistant at the Cobb County Courthouse and at Lockheed. She served as the PTA president at Milford Elementary School. She earned her cosmetology license and became a hair stylist. Wylene was accomplished at interior design and in the 1960’s she and Virgil started their own business, Bailey Interiors. She was active in the American Business Women’s Association and her garden club. She enjoyed playing piano and singing in the church choir at Olive Springs Baptist Church. She also served as the pastor’s secretary there at one time. Wylene enjoyed travel and was fortunate to take many wonderful trips abroad and in the United States. For the last 30 years she was a member of First Baptist Church of Marietta and is a member of the Mary & Martha Sunday School Class. She will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother; a great conversationalist; and a woman of strength and dignity that was a result of her faith in Jesus Christ. To celebrate Wylene’s life, the family is gathering for a private service on Saturday, October 3, 2020, with Reverend Dr. Randy Cheek officiating. Her children would like to thank Jamonda Wise for the care she and her staff have given to their mother this year.
