Nour Yaacoub, a pregnant widow at the age of 27 after the tragic death of her husband in a car accident, dedicated all her life to raising her son not only to survive but to thrive in any kind of setting, whether in the Middle East or in the USA. She taught him the values of dedication, caring, honesty, and hard work.
She came to the USA in the eighties same as many other Lebanese/Middle Eastern mothers who followed their children to the land of opportunities, not by desire but by pure commitment to being close to their next of kin. All these mothers who came during that time are already gone, but all of them are still living in the achievements and accomplishments their children did in a “foreign land.”
Some of us who had a chance to taste her delicious food and experience her hospitality will never forget her giving spirit and open heart. We will all miss the taste of her cooking and her beautiful welcoming smile.
