Nancy Carol McLaughlin Butler passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at her daughter's home surrounded by family. Nancy was born on February 28, 1933 in Elyria, Ohio. Her family moved to Southern California for her Senior year of High School. Mom and her girlfriend Pete (Phyllis) spent many days at the beach in San Diego. One of those days she met a handsome young sailor at a drive-in restaurant. Joe Butler was from Dallas, Georgia. They married August 15, 1953 with Pete as Nancy's bridesmaid and Joe's cousin serving as best man. They relocated to Marietta in 1957 where they began a large family with Nancy handling the home front while Joe took care of the business. They remained married until Joe's passing in 2008. Nancy raised six children and became a Mom figure to her grandchildren, many of whom also called her "Mom". She attended many ball games, scout meetings, recitals, school concerts, plays and performances.
Her children all have fond memories of cross country trips every other Summer to spend time visiting with grandparents in LA. She instilled families love of travel. She continued extensive travel through out her life.
Some of her favorite things include daily reading the MDJ, crossword puzzles, crypto quote and any family event.
She truly lived for her family. In 2010 she opened her home to a son and two young boys, after the loss of a daughter-in-law. She had the ability to balance the role of both grandmother and mother figure when needed. She enjoyed weekends in the mountains at the cabin with family, family ski trips & beach trips. These trips always included good food, board games, cards, reading and puzzles. At times she enjoyed just sitting on the deck watching the birds or on the balcony watching the ocean.
